Ghost too far for Bridge

June 30, 2007

There was a strong contingent of new releases this week, but it was a holdover that took top spot. Ghost Rider fell nearly 25%, but its weekly haul of $6.67 million was still enough to remain in first place while its two week total hit $15.53 million. Bridge to Terabithia claimed second place on the rental chart with $5.74 million, but performed better on the sales chart. Reno 911!: Miami squeezed into third place with $5.02 million. Breach fell to fourth place with $4.91 million for the week and $10.56 million in total while Daddy's Little Girls dipped just 12% to $3.63 million for the week and $7.75 million in total.

Miss Potter just missed the top five, but its opening week of $3.54 million was more than it earned during it entire theatrical run. Another limited release, Gray Matters, also managed that feat earning 26th place with $1.08 million. On the other hand, The Abandoned fell just short with $880,000. Finally, The Life and Hard Times of Guy Terrifico reportedly reached 40th place with $640,000.

As previously hinted at, Bridge to Terabithia topped the sales chart selling nearly twice as many units as Ghost Rider did during its second place, second week of release. Reno 911!: Miami placed third, just as it did on the rental chart, but wasn't as close to the leaders here as it was there. Notbit slipped a spot to fourth while Breach rounded out the top five.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - The Friendship Edition placed ninth, which is an amazing performance for a DVD that is not a significant improvement over the previous release. On the other hand, Die Hard Collection was a downgrade from the its previous release, and it finished in 10th place. Two limited releases also charted, which is a rare feat, as Miss Potter earned 17th place and The Abandoned took 18th.
