Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Him look as though they will be locked in a close battle for top spot at the box office this weekend, with Demon Slayer looking as though it has a very slight edge at the moment, according to our model’s Friday-morning predictions. With a steep drop expected for the anime film, and Him getting poor reviews, there’s a slim chance that The Conjuring: Last Rites could sneak in for a win.

After a monster opening for The Conjuring: Last Rites last weekend, this weekend will belong to Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, with the anime sensation set to post the biggest opening ever for the genre by a huge margin. $11.4 million in previews already gives it one of the best starts for an animated film from any country, ahead of the likes of Minions: The Rise of Gru, which posted $10.75 million in previews back in 2022. The Conjuring: Last Rites scared up $8.5 million from previews yesterday—the best result for a horror movie since Five Nights at Freddy’s clocked in with $10.3 million in October 2023. The “final” Conjuring film should top The Nun’s $53.8 million to have the best opening for the franchise. Our Friday-morning prediction thinks it could go higher than that.
