Theater counts: Caught Stealing robs Freakier Friday from fourth straight widest release

August 28th, 2025

Caught Stealing

Heading into its third weekend, two-time box office champ Weapons ceded the spotlight to a surprise contender: Netflix’s animated musical KPop Demon Hunters. The two-night event film made an unexpected splash, pulling in an estimated $19 million across roughly 1,700 locations. While Weapons aims to reclaim the top spot, it’ll have to battle through a trio of new challengers to return to the winner’s circle. More...

Theater counts: Superman ascends to widest release in its second weekend

July 17th, 2025

Superman

High-flying Superman opened to a sizable $125 million in its weekend debut, pushing Jurassic World Rebirth down to second place; however, the latter still snagged just over $40 million in its second attempt, finishing out the three-day stretch with a total domestic cume of $232 million. Those films will contend with a trio of newcomers this weekend as Smurfs, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Eddington make their way into theaters. More...

Theater counts: Inside Out 2 remains widest release after a stellar opening weekend

June 20th, 2024

Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 was off and running at the domestic box office last weekend as the animated sequel over-performed most predictions (including ours), pulling in an outstanding $154.2 million in its opening three-day frame. Possibly even more impressive yet, the film has increased its daily box office since Monday, when it posted $22.42 million in earnings. The film took in $28.83 million on Tuesday and $30.1 million on Wednesday, the latter marking the third largest non-opening Wednesday at the box office of all time. Once again playing in 4,440 locations, the Pixar film should have no trouble staying atop the chart. More...

Theater counts: A Man Called Otto holds on as widest release as two new films debut

January 26th, 2023

A Man Called Otto

Our widest releases list this week is close to being a replay of last week with A Man Called Otto still occupying the top spot by playing in 3,957 cinemas. The Tom Hanks comedy-drama has scored just short of $60 million worldwide to date during its four-week run. More...

Theater counts: Elvis and The Black Phone debut but Lightyear will be the widest release

June 23rd, 2022

Lightyear

While it has taken a back seat to both Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World: Dominion this week at the box office, Lightyear will become the widest release this weeked, albeit due Dominion dropping 400+ locations. While the Toy Story spinoff didn’t exactly hold up to the majority of expectations, the film has still garnered over $67 million in domestic revenue as of Wednesday. Pixar’s Lightyear keeps its opening count of 4,255 theaters as it heads into its sophomore outing. More...

Featured TV on DVD Review: The Shannara Chronicles: Season 1

June 6th, 2016

The Shannara Chronicles: Season 1

The Shannara Chronicles is a TV series based on the fantasy book series by Terry Brooks. The series of books has been going for nearly 40 years and has quite a following. It is also co-created and written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who helped bring Smallville to the small screen. That's enough to be at least a little hopeful. Can the series live up to its pedigree? Or is it wasted potential? More...
