Movie Websites Launches for December 19 - December 25
December 24, 2003
During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here is an abridged list of highlights, (including the winner for the week, Peter Pan - Official Site) plus one last look at websites for films opening this week. This week's list is abridged due to the holidays. Next week's will probably be the same, but it will return to normal in the New Year. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
Catch that Kid
Current Content: Placeholder site with the synopsis and the trailer.
Cheaper by the Dozen
Current Content: The film opens tomorrow, but there’s has been nothing new added to the site since last week. However, there’s not much that could be added to the site. It has all the usual features, animated segues, background music, (in fact there’s clips from three different songs.) Overall it’s a good site.
Cold Mountain
Current Content: The last three sections that were marked coming soon were added. Of these three, the clips section is the best. One of them, Leaving for War has a bit of background information but the other four are just videos. The books section is links to the novel the film is based on and a book about the making of the movie. The soundtrack section is just a track list and a couple of contests.
The Company
Current Content: This site has the usual features, synopsis, cast and crew bios, production notes, trailer and image gallery. It also has a behind the scenes featurette and lots of links in the Dancers’ Corner. However, there’s little animation and no sound outside the trailer and featurette.
The Ladykillers
Current Content: Placeholder site with the synopsis and the trailer.
Monster
Current Content: The flash site launched, sort of. The flash site appears to be just a point and click interactive flash intro. The non-flash site, which was previously reviewed, does have the usual features.
Paycheck
Current Content: The memory sequencing feature was added to the site, and it definitely was intriguing. But not enough to put it over the top.
Peter Pan
Current Content: Opening tomorrow, there was a huge amount of multimedia added to the site. This includes half a dozen clips from the movie, and 20 interview clips. These were added to a site that already had an impressive amount of content. The main attraction is still the Jolly Roger, the Home Underground and the Black Castle, which you can explore. There are also a couple of games to play, plus the usual features. It is this week’s winner of the infantile Weekly Website Award.
The Village
Current Content: Just the placeholder site with the synopsis and the teaser trailer. The interactive desktop is marked coming soon.
Young Black Stallion
Current Content: Opens Christmas Day on Imax screens, it is the behind the scenes info that steal the show for this site. Not only are there extensive production notes, which can be downloaded in .pdf format, but a featurette that is more than 5 minutes long. Speaking of .pdfs, you can also download a study guide for teachers. Besides these less common features, the site has the usual features as well. The main problem with the site is the lack of sound.
