Per Theater Chart Takes a Vacation

Despite the long weekend, not a single film was able to enter the $10,000 club, not even if you include Monday. The film with the highest Per Theater Average was William Eggleston in the Real World, which wasn't even close at $6,820. With award season just getting started, more and more high quality limited releases should come one and there probably won't be many weeks without at least one film hitting $10,000 on its per theater average from now until the end of the year.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Junebug hit its first milestone, reaching $1 million over the weekend, but that won't be the film's last.
  • The Aristocrats made it to $4 million during the midweek, but will probably start shedding theaters from now on.
  • Broken Flowers crossed $10 million over the weekend, but has peaked both on the box office and with its theater count. The film should still hit another milestone or two, but in order to do more than that, the film will have to become a player during award season.
  • March of the Penguins has topped $60 million so far and is now ahead of such high profile films as Cinderella Man and Bewitched, (if you include Monday).
