No film was able to make it into the $10,000 club over the weekend, The Untold Story of Emmett Till came the closest with $13,165 since Wednesday, but only $8,695 of that was earned over the weekend. That was still enough to lead the Per Theatre Charts ahead of the re-release of Elevator to the Gallows and the overall box office leader, The 40-Year Old Virgin, which earned averages of $7,596 and $7,530 respectively.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theatre Charts alumnus:

  • The Aristocrats reached $2 million during the midweek, but has peaked at the box office and its per theatre average is soft enough that it doesn't warrant another massive expansion.
  • On the other hand, Broken Flowers could still see its theatre count grow wider after hitting $5 million over the weekend. Right now it's tracking better than Garden State but not as strong as Lost in Translation.
  • There's good news and there's bad news with regard to March of the Penguins this week. Good news it is hit $40 million during the midweek, $45 million over the weekend, and will easily hit $50 million by the end of today. The bad news is, I've learned that this isn't just a harmless animal documentary but is in fact the first step in a sinister plot to take over the world. Don't believe me? Recently a penguin was given the rank of Honourable Regimental Sergeant major in the Norwegian Army. This is obviously the next step in the Penguins plans to rule us all and their military will be funded by the profits from March of the Penguins. I can't be the only one who has figured this out!
