Re-Release Leads Close Race

The re-release of Masculine Feminine took top spot on the per theater charts, with an average of $13,428 in two theaters. This is the second time in three weeks that a re-release has managed that feat. There was an extremely close battle for second place between the overall box office champ, Hitch and Bride and Prejudice, which earned averages of $12,068 and $12,058 respectively. Had the latter film sold just 50 more tickets it would have finished in second place.

This past week also saw some milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Ong-Bak opened with more than $1 million. Unfortunately, its per theater average was not strong enough to suggest much of an expansion after that.
  • Bad Education had its widest release so far, which helped the film top $4 million at the box office.
  • Being Julia continues to benefit at the box office from Annette Bening's award season glory. This weekend the movie made it to $5 million, a milestone that seemed out of reach a few weeks into its run.
  • Finding Neverland reached $40 million late last week and should have enough life left in it to reach a couple more milestones.
  • Another week, another milestone for Sideways. This time it topped $50 million. If it can do well Oscar night, who knows where it will end up.
