Queen's Royal Reign Continues
October 10, 2006
For the second weekend in a row, The Queen top the per theatre charts with an average of $36,543, down just over 10%. This is even more impressive since the movie saw its theatre count climb from 3 to 11. Little Children came in next after earning nearly $100,000 in 5 theatres for an average of $19,591 while Shortbus earned just over $100,000 in 6 theatres for an average of $17,985. The former film has a much better shot at earning some mainstream success as the latter is just too much for the average moviegoer.
The best of the rest was the Canadian film, Trailer Park Boys: The Movie, maybe. Because it's a long-weekend up here exact numbers are not in, but early reports have the film brining in $1.2 million in 181 theatres. If these reports hold up it would give the film a per theatre average of $6,630. Next up is Wrestling with Angels with $5,944 in one theatre and $7,797 since Wednesday. No other film made much of an impact including very weak openings for Black Gold at $2,255 and Kettle of Fish at $1,865. Even worse was Love's Abiding Joy as the film managed just $137,000 in 207 theatres for a pathetic average of $661 while So Goes the Nation earned a tiny $2,622 in 4 theatres for an average of just $656.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theatre Charts alumni:
