Movie Website Updates for March 31 - April 6
April 6, 2006
It's a much busier week this week including several sites that I found through e-mails. Thanks for the tips. (On a side note, if you sent me an e-mail regarding a movie site and I forgot it, please send it again. It was a big list this week and I'm almost positive one or two sites slipped between the cracks.) Unfortunately, while there are plenty of sites on this week's list, there's not a lot of top notch ones. The movie on this list that made me the most excited was The Simpsons Movie, and that one doesn't even have an official movie site, just the teaser trailer.

Not much as changed since the site first appeared on the column. Informative, but not stylish.
There's a new production journal, but its just a link to another site.
There was actually an update this week as the April 14th limited release was announced.
Another game was added to the site, but I wasn't impressed. It relies too much on luck as the letters that fall matter more than your skill. Also, you have to wait till the fill in the word before moving on to the next letter else it won't count and you'll lose valuable time.
The site appears to be down at the moment, I'll check back later in the day to see if its back. ... It's back and the Test Your Mate personality quiz was added to the site.
The full site is up this week and in contains all of the usual features, (synopsis, cast & crew bios, etc.), as well as plenty of extra clips, some of which are very short. There is, on the other hand, there is a much longer behind-the-scenes clip, but its mostly promotional fluff.
No real changes in a couple of weeks and in the end the site doesn't do a very good job at selling the movie. But then again, I don't think we can blame the site for that.
The regular site is up and it contains the new Internet only trailer. Like the teaser trailer, this one is made more to get the base excited than it is to attract a large, mainstream audience. Also on the site are the character bios, but those just take you to MySpace profiles. I can't explore those fully since I'm apparently the last person on the on planet to not have a MySpace page. Lastly, there was yet another video clip added to the production journal.
The second trailer finally worked, but it didn't do anything for me. I'm not sure why I'm not more excited about this movie, but at the moment it doesn't look like the event picture it was billed as.
This is actually the site for the British release and the domestic release will probably have a different site. As for the quality of this site, it has plenty of information, but not enough style.
Just the synopsis, image gallery and trailer so far.
No updates in a couple of weeks, but the site is still effective if a little simple.
Just a placeholder site with the synopsis and cast and crew list.
No actual content, but for a placeholder site it shows promise.
The site is pretty sparse with just the synopsis, cast list, image gallery and trailer.
Even though the URL says Harsh Times, this the official site of the production company and not the movie. The official movie site is marked coming soon.
The synopsis, cast & crew bios, and image gallery are here with the trailer marked coming soon, but at least the navigation adds a bit of style to the site. The only unusual feature on the site is the fish tank, but while it's cute, it's not a feature that helps sell the movie. And without the trailer, it's very difficult to just its potential.
First of all, a warning. There is some partial nudity on the site, so it is not safe for work. Then again, the URL alone could get you into trouble. The site has all the usual features, but not a whole lot extra. The most unusual feature in the interview section, but they are all text based.
The site is completely gone. This could mean I caught them in the middle of an update, or something's seriously wrong. I'll check back later in the day to see which it is. ... It's back and exactly the same as last week.
No real changes in about a month.
Pretty good site with all you would expect from a documentary site, but I was expecting a little more in the way of music.
The site underwent a complete redesign last week, with plenty of content here and more marked coming soon. Right now the heart of the site is the video section that includes three trailers, four TV spots, and two behind-the-scenes featurettes.
Another with will the usual features but nothing in the way of extras. There are some clips, but they are marked coming soon and probably won't be added till after the film's theatrical release next week.
Two more confessionals were added this week. One on the first week of filming and the other on his bike / chariot.
Nothing new on the main site, but here are some podcasts: Meet the Cast and Characters, Comic Strip, and Cinematography.
The flash is site up but so far about half the content is still marked coming soon. It's a very subdued site, which I think works, but it does mean it can't stand out against the competition.
There was a Are you Phat? personality quiz added to the site this week and the background song is no longer skipping. Don't know if the problem was on their end or not, but at least it was fixed.
The regular features are here, but nothing that really constitutes extras. Add in little in the way of sound and animation and you have a site that just doesn't stand out in a crowd.
Simple site with just the usual features including a very effective trailer.
Another game was added, but it doesn't work for me as only the top half loads.
Floor two of the hotel was added, but there's nothing to do there. At least nothing I could find.
The site was killed by heavy traffic. Perhaps it will return by next week.
I think the site's in Dutch, but I can't be entirely sure of that. It seems to have all the usual features, but there' s not much here in terms of extras of sound and animation.
There's no official site yet, but the teaser trailer is online.
The site has what you would expect for a documentary site. I did run into a couple of problems with scroll bars appearing where they shouldn't, but I don't know if that was a problem on their end or if it was a problem with Mozila.
Just two words, "Coming Soon."
Another new flash site that launched this week. This one has most of the usual features, (the cast & crew bios are marked coming soon), and extras mostly in the form of personality quizzes. The overall style isn't bad, but doesn't do enough to sell the movie. Maybe when the last couple of features are added then that will change.
The site seems very chaotic at the moment, but the film's in production still and it is more of a production journal than a movie website. It does include some of the regular features like synopsis and cast and crew bios. The best feature on the site was the video clips, I especially liked the behind-the-scenes video where they try and secretly film the set. I love how she was whispering, because that way no one will know she was there after posting the clip on the Internet.
All the usual features are here with a few extras including a couple of games and some, 're-mixed' trailers. I don't know if those re-mixed trailers sell the film well, but they are certainly fun.
Just the trailer so far with the full site marked coming soon.
A good site will all the usual features but not much in the way of extras. The most unusual features are the character bios and the information on the Seder.
The site a huge amount of information, but doesn't have a very professional feel to it.
The flash site is up and it has all the usual features, (synopsis, character bios, image gallery, and trailer). The site also has three games, but all are still marked coming soon. Lastly, there are a lot of audio clips, but overall the site does sell the film very well.
