DVD Rentals - Transformers almost Teppid on the Rental Chart

October 29, 2007

The Transformers led a list of six new releases and the overall rental chart this week, but at $9.97 million in rentals, it was a subdued victory compared to its dominance of the sales chart. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer remained in second place with $5.96 million for the week and $22.71 after three. Surf's Up didn't show as strong legs down 28% to $5.90 million while its total rose to $14.03 million. Evan Almighty was down less than 10% to $5.82 million lifting its total to $12.24 million so far. The final film in the top five was Grindhouse - Planet Terror with $5.77 million, twice as much as Death Proof earned during its opening week.

A Mighty Heart just missed the top five with $5.38 million, which was miles ahead of its performance on the sales chart. It was the opposite result for The Reaping, which placed 10th with $3.82 million in rentals. The Hoax wasn't far behind in 13th place with $2.32 million and I'm willing to bet more than a few people who rented the film will end up buying it. Finally, The Invisible opened in 16th place with $1.97 million, but the less said about this film's performance, the better.
