Can't Touch the Duchess on the Per Theater Averages

The Duchess of Langeais was the number one film on the per theater chart this week, earning an average of $11,126 in two theaters while Oscar-winner The Counterfeiters earned an average of $10,939 in 8 theaters.

There were only three other new limited releases and none of them came close to $10,000. Cover was the best of the rest at just $2,143, which is just above the Mendoza line. On the other hand, The Signal couldn't crack $1,000, earning just $905 while Genghis Khan: To the Ends of the Earth and Sea missed the $100 mark with a mere $83 per theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

• Jodhaa Akbar reached $2 million over the weekend and is already halfway to $3 million.
• In Bruges hit $2 million late last week and is already almost to $3 million.
• Persepolis topped $3 million before the weekend and could hit $4 million by this time next week.
• U2 3D was able to reach $4 million, but its expansion went poorly and it could sink rapidly from now on.
• The Diving Bell and the Butterfly has earned $5 million so far, but that's likely its final milestone.
• Juno has hit $130 million and now has just over the box office of American Gangster and just under the box office of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. It is also climbing the Never Been Number One chart and it now in 27th place but it aiming for a spot in the top 20.
