DVD Rentals - Dinosaurs Have Their Revenge
November 11, 2009
Ice Age - Dawn of the Dinosaurs led the new releases to take top spot on the rental chart with roughly 50% more than second place Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen took in during its second week of release.
Orphan opened in third place, which is better than it did on the sales chart, which is not that surprising given its struggles theatrically.
It didn't bomb in theaters, but it was only a middling success, so a lot of people interested in the movie haven't seen it yet, which means a lot of people will try before they buy.
The Proposal was just behind in fourth place, while Land of the Lost rounded out the top five.
The best of the rest of the new releases was Nothing Like the Holidays, which landed in tenth place.
The Maiden Heist started its early rental window in 18th place, while it isn't available to buy until the 24th.
Finally, Whatever Works opened in 19th place.
Total rentals were down 15.4% from last week to $138.0 million, according to Home Media Magazine; however, that was 21.8% higher than the same weekend last year.
This sharp drop-off was expected has last week we had the biggest hits of the year come out, while this week the top film was a kids movie, which tend to perform better on the sales chart than the rental chart.
