DVD Sales: The Top of the Chart Looks Quite Horrible

October 25, 2011

The top of the DVD sales chart was the weakest its been in more than a month and no new release was able to top 500,000 units sold. Horrible Bosses came the closest with 451,000 units / $6.89 million. Green Lantern took second place with 316,000 units / $4.78 million. This is a disappointing home market start for a film that was a box office disappointment to begin with. Hopefully it will be better on Blu-ray. Fast Five fell to third place with 307,000 units / $5.21 million for the week and 1.14 million units / $18.81 million after two. Zookeeper only managed fourth place on its debut with 294,000 units / $5.08 million. This is weak compared to its theatrical run. Transformers: Dark of the Moon fell to fifth place with 220,000 units / $3.87 million over the week and 1.55 million units / $27.86 million after three. It's one of the best selling DVDs of the year and it's doing even better on Blu-ray, so the studio should be quite happy.

There were a few other new releases to chart, starting with Bones: Season Six in seventh place with 115,000 units / $4.24 million. Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer sold 60,000 units / $904,000, which was only enough for ninth place. The final new release to chart was Chuck: Season Four. The penultimate season sold 45,000 units and generated $1.54 million in sales during its first week on the home market.
