Per Theater Chart: Apes Conquer Crowded Field

August 9, 2011

Just as it led the overall box office chart, Rise of the Planet of the Apes led the per theater chart with an average of $15,024. Gun Hill Road was in second place with an average of $12,609, which put it just ahead of El Bulli: Cooking in Progress's haul of $12,149 in its lone theater. Bellflower's amazing reviews helped it earn an average of $11,140 in two theaters. The final member of the $10,000 club was The Guard with an average of $10,209 in 19 theaters. It should still find room to expand while reaching at least one major milestone is likely.

There were a few other new limited release with The Whistleblower doing the best at $8,300. Mysteries of Lisbon opened with an average of $6,154 in two theaters, which isn't bad given its more than four-hour running time. It would be hard to fit many screenings of the movie into a single weekend. Magic Trip was not as successful with an average of $3,550.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple Per Theater Charts alumni:

  • Snow Flower and the Secret Fan topped $1 million over the weekend and there's a chance it could reach $2 million.
  • Sarah's Key also surpassed $1 million over the weekend, but it is practically guaranteed to reach $2 million.
