DVD and Blu-ray Releases for April 17th, 2012

April 17th, 2012

This week's list of DVD and Blu-ray releases is dominated by Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol. The Blu-ray Combo Pack is worth picking up, but you'll want the Best Buy exclusive, or perhaps you want to tell studios to stop doing retailer exclusives, as they are annoying. That added complication is the reason I'm not awarding the release Pick of the Week, but there are not a lot of other films worthy either. Shame has two amazing performances, but the Blu-ray Combo Pack doesn't have a lot of extras. DVD and Blu-ray Releases for March 20th, 2012

March 20th, 2012

These include two serious drama / thrillers: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on Blu-ray Combo Pack and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on Blu-ray. However, in the end, I went with the extreme other end of the serious scale with The Muppets's Wocka Wocka Value Pack More...

Featured DVD Review: Roadracers

March 17th, 2012

Roadracers was only the second film by Robert Rodriguez and by far it is his least well known. It was made for TV back in 1994 as part of Showtime's Rebel Highway series. It was supposed to have a DVD release in 2005, with color correction, audio commentary track, and another installment of Robert Rodriguez's Ten-Minute Film School. However, at the last minute, it was pulled from the schedule. Now it is being released by Echo Bridge Home Entertainment, a studio that specializes in low budget releases for hard to get films. For instance, I recently reviewed The Station Agent, which is a featureless re-release of an out of print DVD. For fans of the actor, being able to buy the film on DVD is good news. But is this going to be a featureless bargain DVD? More...
