Synopsis

The story of Micha Hartung, a Berlin video store owner on the verge of bankruptcy who unwittingly becomes a hero for the whole of Germany: When, on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist portrays him as the mastermind of the largest mass exodus in the GDR, his life is suddenly turned upside down. As an unwilling con man, Micha becomes entangled in a thicket of half-truths and outright lies. And when the fragile house of cards of history threatens to collapse around him and his life sinks into chaos, he meets Paula. Micha would never have believed that a successful, intelligent, and witty woman like her could be interested in a man like him. But the budding love story is overshadowed by the lie.
